Facebook for trades: set up your page and fill your schedule
Most of your customers are on Facebook every day. A good business page and a simple posting habit can bring in jobs without spending a dollar. Ads can add more when you're ready.
Set up your page properly
- Use your real business name and your logo as the profile picture.
- Cover photo: you, your crew or your truck on a job. Not a stock photo.
- Fill in every detail: phone, website, service area, hours and a short description of what you do.
- Add a “Call now” or “Send message” button, whichever you'll actually answer faster.
- Turn on recommendations so customers can vouch for you on your page.
What to post
- Before-and-after photos of real jobs, once or twice a week.
- Seasonal reminders: “Time to book your furnace check before the cold hits.”
- Short videos of a finished job or a quick tip.
- Customer thank-yous (with permission) and your crew at work.
When to run Facebook ads
Once you have a few good posts, boost your best before-and-after to homeowners in the towns you serve. Start with a small daily budget for a week or two, and keep the ad that brings in messages.
What a starter budget looks like in Canada
You set your budget in your own currency, so a Canadian ad account spends Canadian dollars. Meta lets you start very small, but ads aimed at getting messages or calls usually need more than the minimum to give Facebook enough to learn from. Here's how a few common budgets work out:
- A two-week test: $10 a day for 14 days is $140. Enough to see which photo and wording get people messaging you.
- A steady local campaign: $15 a day is about $450 a month, aimed only at the towns you serve.
- Busy season push: $25 a day is about $750 a month, for the few months when people book your kind of work.
Give any new ad at least two weeks before you judge it, and run one or two ads at a time rather than ten. Small budgets go further when they aren't split too many ways.
Track what you get
Ask every caller where they found you, and count the messages each ad brings in. If $450 a month brings two good jobs, that's a cost you can compare with Kijiji, HomeStars or anything else you pay for.
